Where can I find my API key?

You can find your API key within project settings, see here for detailed instructions.

Do I need to do anything special if my Amplitude account is EU-based?

Yes, select the “Set Server Zone to EU” checkbox in Amplitude settings and save.

How does the plugin work?

The plugin installs an advanced version of our Browser SDK, adding the Browser SDK script before the tag of each of your website’s pages, and enables an advanced version of Default Event Tracking.

If the Session Replay checkbox is checked, the plugin also installs and activates the Session Replay SDK with the sampling rate you’ve selected.

What events does the plugin track?

In addition to the standard set of default events the plugin’s advanced version of DET also captures :

Is this Autotrack?

Generally, companies like Heap define their Auto-track/Autocapture capabilities as a comprehensive set of interactive tracking that captures every user interaction. Default Event Tracking Advanced targets two specific types of interactions, and our click tracking targets specific element types (like links, buttons, inputs, etc.) to limit the amount of noise in the data. Continuing to be intentional about the data we collect with our solutions helps mitigate a problem we’ve called out in the past with these solutions: tracking everything creates a lot of noise in the data.

Will this impact our event volume?

Yes. While we’ve limited click tracking to specific element types, this will count each click the same way as a precisely tracked event. The amount of the increase depends mainly on the organization. Companies just getting started with very few precisely-tracked events would significantly increase their event volume. At the same time, an org with an extensive tracking plan may experience a smaller change. (For example, we saw a 20-30% increase when we implemented it on our site).
